Take the Long Way Home

by Supertramp (1979)

Supertramp’s “Take the Long Way Home” is an example of lyrics not too obscure — most, after all, should be able to come to the conclusion that the song is a romantic taunt at the inevitability of conflict in romance — but done so well as to merit mention. In particular, the song’s opening words represent poetry at its finest:

So, you think you’re a Romeo,
Playing a part in a picture show?
Take the long way home.
